———————————-

Born at Moss Vale on 19th of February 1923 in the house at the corner of Throsby Street and Spring Street Moss Vale. [Possibly Nurse Mary Ryde’s maternity hospital – Venata Page 3] My parents lived at Wildes Meadow on Belmore falls road in a bush framed house later occupied by Mr Moses.

Dad and mum spoke of taking me home wrapped in a horse rug on a horse drawn sulky. I was baptised at Saint David’s church Burrawang.

At two years of age I moved to a property in Bowral near Craigieburn owned by Lebus[?] Houghton where dad and Mr Shepherd ran the cattle and dairy property.

I can remember standing on the hill overlooking the road to Bowral watching several men walk the cattle to Bowral railway station to be shipped to Sydney for the Royal Easter Show.

Only other recollections are:

  1. falling and cutting my head open on the back of a sandstone steps,
  2. seeing a man grab a snake by the tail as it disappeared under the door into the dairy pulling it out and cracking it like a whip to kill it.
